Seniors Community Housing/Health Facilities

Stratford Senior Housing

San Mateo, California (1999)

Eye Level View

The Stratford is a ten story congregate care apartment comprised of sixty four units (one, two and three bedroom) and nine Personal Care units, as well as dining facilities, a library, laundry, beauty shop, games, TV and activities rooms, and sub-grade parking.

The design objective for this project was to create an elegant, attractive, and urban senior living community aimed at preserving an independent lifestyle within a distinctively residential setting. Appealing to upper income residents with widely diverse backgrounds, the design reflects a classic sophistication and civic presence.

The design had to resolve conflicts between strict height and bulk requirements and the need for all the functions and spaces of a first class hotel. Plans were designed to be flexible for major customization. At least one YSA principal participated as design architect, supervising architect and/or senior designer while associated with the architect-of-record for this project.
